LC Rotary Performance Boating Initiative

 Mecklenburg County Students Go Racing

With the Lake Country Rotary Club’s Help

The Lake Country Rotary Club has decided to take on the task of raising the funds for the Mecklenburg County Public Schools in order to purchase the materials to build two (2) T Boat hydroplane racing boats.  The building of T Boats serves to complement the program initiated in 2007 that allows county students to build five (5) J Boats to be raced by them in the World Inboard Championship Clarksville Hydroplane Challenge.  We believe this is an outstanding opportunity to extend a great learning opportunity which includes vocational training to older students in the county.

The vision for the Mecklenburg County Public School system is to offer a Performance Boating Academy, which provides a continuum from the middle to the high school and encompasses as many of the strands of the boating/boat racing industry as possible.  In this way, we can tap into kids early, build their knowledge and passion both for the sport and for an aspect of boating, and  provide not only entry for them into their chosen field but also an avenue for them to bolster the local economy and to increase boating safety in Mecklenburg County.

Goals for this program include offering a place for those students involved in the Performance Boat Academy to start boating related businesses, racing, marketing or other careers based in Mecklenburg County.  Once the hydroplane portion of this is well on its way, we hope to address Offshore Racing needs through the same mechanism.

It is the goal of the Lake Country Rotary Club to support this effort by providing the tools and resources not available through conventional school funding.  To achieve this goal the Club needs to raise approximately $25,000.

As part of our fund raising efforts, the Rotary is offering sponsorships for these two T Boats Hydroplanes.  This tax deductible donation of $1,000.00 to The Lake Country Rotary Foundation brings with it the following benefits:

  • Sponsorship decals on the two T-Boats.

  • For early birds, decals on the five J Boats being built this spring

  • Your logo on the J Boat sponsorship page in the 2007 World Inboard Championship Clarksville Hydroplane Challenge Program courtesy of Sea Systems Group, Inc.

  • Graphic art students will work with you to design your art work for the decals to complement the Hydroplane graphics.

  • The hydroplanes will travel up and down the East Coast and be raced in many Hydroplane Race Events in the 2007 & 2008 racing seasons, bringing region-wide exposure to your company or organization.

  • A way to help our county school system get the students involved in a program they can follow from elementary school through graduation and beyond.

  • Help students build a passion and respect for boat racing and our greatest area resource - Buggs Island Lake/John H. Kerr Reservoir!
