2011 Clarksville Hydroplane Challenge

Buggs Island Lake/John H. Kerr Reservoir

Clarksville, VA

The 2011 race has been cancelled.

The Clarksville Economic Development Association regretfully announces that it is forced to cancel the 2011 Clarksville Hydroplane Challenge scheduled for September 24 & 25. A number of factors have caused us to make this difficult decision. The current economic climate is causing hardships for everyone. Businesses do not have the ability to contribute to sponsorships. Our race was originally moved from the traditional date of the first weekend in October due to a scheduling conflict. The American Power Boat Association scheduled an inboard championship race in New Jersey for that weekend. Another conflicting race is also taking place in New York on September 24. Race crews are limiting their travel to more local events due to the expense to travel and participate in more distant races. The CEDA Board of directors feels that it would be more fiscally responsible to cancel the race before competitors and spectators commit to any expense to travel to attend. We appreciate all the support received from our sponsors, our community and our volunteers and we look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s race.
